Strong Foundations: ensuring a resilient starting point for your goals

Strong Foundation: ensuring a resilient starting point for your goals

When I think back to all of the times I have failed to reach my goals, targets, and ambitions – and there are many such occasions – I can see one reoccurring problem. The lack of a strong foundation from which to springboard to achievement. Often we embark upon a task without first doing the necessary groundwork in order to increase our chances of success. It is these tasks which fail 9 out of 10 times. What we must do is learn, gather information, and perform prerequisite tasks to provide the strong foundations we can then lean on to reach our goals.

gift of attention this valentine's day

Give the gift of attention this Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is an odd day. A special day to show you love someone? Surely every day should be thus! We do not love our partner any more on Valentine’s, so why would it be necessary to show them that love more than usual? It is possible that in your hectic life you aren’t spending enough time showing that love? If it is then it is understandable. We are all often very busy. We take things for granted. That is why Valentine’s Day is so important – to remind those that we love that we do love them. And I have an idea of the perfect gift for them: your attention.

Active Listening

Active Listening – how it will change the way you interact forever

We have all been in those conversations where we don’t quite know what to say – and it shows. If this were The Sims we would be having little negative relationship points signs appear above our heads in those situations. Even if the other person doesn’t outwardly say it, you’ll come across as someone who either doesn’t care or wasn’t listening. But there is an easy solution to this, one that doesn’t require you to actually know what to say in response – active listening.

My experience with interviews and tips to answer 4 basic questions you almost always get

My experiences with interviews and tips to answer 4 basic questions you almost always get

I have some interview tips for you today, although my own interview experience has not always been brilliant. For the most part, my stories involving interviews are tales of woe. I’m am known to be bad at interviews! Even with confidence before going in I still suddenly have issues when answering questions. A change in the tone or pitch of my voice or abrupt memory loss is a common problem I have. Luckily it isn’t normally an issue that goes past the first interview question once I’ve settled in.

Is the greatest problem with other people ourselves? The self-delusion epidemic.

Is the greatest problem with other people ourselves? The self-delusion epidemic.

In the early 1980s Benjamin Libet conducted a series of experiments where subject’s brains were monitored whilst they chose to initiate an action. It was concluded that the brain was initiating the action before the person became aware of “deciding” to do it. What this study challenged was the concept of ourself being all powerful within us. In guiding our behaviour the conscious self’s role is not quite what we thought it was. When we think about our conscious mind and the power it holds the role is overstated because it feels so powerful. To put it another way, the conscious mind is naturally deluded about its own nature.

Making way for the Christmas goodies – ditching the excess, unwanted, and unused from your life.

Making way for the Christmas goodies – ditching the excess, unwanted, and unused from your life.

We all love Christmas but an inevitable side effect is that we end up with even more stuff! From clothes to trivia games to the latest hobby aid it all takes up space. I tried to pre-empt it this year by throwing a few things out over the past week before the big day. Although admittedly when it came to the clothes I only just got around to ditching the excess.

My amazing hobbies and happiness

We all want to do what we love. For some people that is their career. Their job. For many, however, it is what they do outside of work that brings them the most happiness and enjoyment.

I am no exception to this rule.

I enjoy my job but I do not love it. I need to do other things to keep happy and that is where my hobbies come into it. Over the past seven years or so I have developed my hobbies from infrequent instances to more regular activities.
